Potassium citrate is a white, water-soluble potassium salt of citric acid with an alkalising effect and mildly salty-tart taste. It is a preferred potassium source in electrolyte and hydration products and also serves as a food buffer.

Supplied as a mineral salt / chelate for supplement, premix and fortification use; elemental mineral content is declared on the CoA.

How to Use / Dosage

  • Typical daily intake: 99–1,000 mg/day potassium in supplements (potassium citrate ~36–38% K)
  • Typical use level: 0.1–1% in beverages; 5–40% in electrolyte powders; 10–50% in tablets
  • Formulation tip: Calculate dosage on elemental mineral content (see CoA), not on total salt weight.
  • Weigh accurately and pre-blend small quantities with a carrier (e.g. maltodextrin, MCC or rice flour) for uniform distribution.
  • Final dosage should be based on the lot-specific Certificate of Analysis, the target serving size and the rules of your destination market.

Storage & Handling

Store tightly closed in a cool, dry place below 25 °C; hygroscopic – reseal promptly and protect from humidity.. Keep container tightly closed; use clean, dry utensils. Shelf life is typically 24 months in unopened original packaging (see CoA).

Permitted source of potassium in US dietary supplements and foods and listed under EU Directive 2002/46/EC and Regulation 1925/2006. Verify maximum levels and warning requirements in destination market. Potassium citrate is GRAS (21 CFR 184.1625) and EU additive E332.
